October 20th to 22nd, 2026 at NPL, Teddington, England

DEADLINE EXTENDED: CALL FOR PAPERS and REGISTRATION

Please submit your abstract and save money by early-bird registration now

*** Abstract submission still open! Please submit NOW ***

Welcome to NanoScale 2026 at NPL! Please submit your abstract  and register for participation via the web interfaces. Similar to 2023, the abstract length is again limited to 4000 characters, and you may upload up to 4 figures - please check that the images are large enough and that their resolution is sufficient to display the details of interest. Before you submit your abstract, please ensure that all your co-authors agree with your proposed submission, and observe the rules applicable for abstract submissions at your institute. If you feel that your abstract cannot be submitted via the interface (e. g. if you wish to show many equations, formulae, etc.), please contact Thorsten. All abstracts will be checked by the OrgaTeam. Please indicate whether you prefer a talk or a poster. Usually, by far more abstracts are submitted for oral presentation than timeslots available - the ScieComm will make the selection on oral presentations and posters based on a scoring system.

The registration to the conference is binding, and registered participants are considered to transfer the fee within 14 days after registration.

As NanoScale is hosted on PTB servers, the same tight safety standards apply. Access to the website might be denied when using an old browser or operation system. If you do not succeed with the latest browsers, please contact Thorsten.

Deadlines:
Abstract submission EXTENDED UNTIL July 27th, 2026
Early-bird registration until August 15th, 2026

Program at a glance

NanoScale 2026 is embedded in the Length Metrology Week

We are pleased to present the  tentative program  of NanoScale 2026 with additional information on how to get there. NanoScale 2026 will extend over three full days (Tuesday-Thursday) to allow ample time for presentation and discussions. It is therefore recommended to arrive already Monday evening and consider to leave on Friday morning not to miss any event and to ensure a relaxed stay.
Similar to 2019 and 2023, NanoScale is embedded in a Length Metrology Week, with Working/Task Groups of the BIPM Consultative Committee on Length meeting in conjunction with NanoScale 2026. We are pleased that there are no parallel sessions, neither at NanoScale nor concerning these WG/TG meetings. While NanoScale is an open event (which requires prior registration), the WG/TG meetings are for delegates only, who are warmly welcome to take the chance and combine their WG/TG meetings with attending NanoScale!

Welcome to NPL, Teddington, London!

Entry requirements: please ask for a visa recommendation letter if you need a visa

  • It is recommended to check the conditions for entry to the UK. An ID-card is no longer accepted for entry to the UK! Citizens of EU countries need a passport - please consult with your institute's mobility management whether a private passport or an official passport is required. You may already apply for a new passport now, bearing in mind that waiting times may be very long in some countries. (For German citizens at PTB, a private passport is currently considered sufficient by the PTB mobility management, but you many also use an official passport.)
  • In addition to the passport, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is needed. It can be obtained online a few weeks before the business trip. Please make sure that you carry the same passport with you that is stated in the ETA.
  • Attendees from non-EU countries usually need a visa for the UK. As the UK is neither part of the EU nor a Schengen country, Schengen visa do not help for Britain. Guests from overseas may need two different visas if they wish to attend NanoScale in England and visit institutes in the EU. Please consult with the organizers as early as possible. Due to the increased international tensions since 2022-02-24, both UK and EU countries pursue a rather tight visa policy.
  • For attendees from non-EU countries, please first submit your abstract and register for NanoScale, and then ask the organizers to send you a visa recommendation letter. For this, please scan the ID page of your passport and - together with your business address and affiliation - send it to the organizers. Furthermore, you will need a letter from your employer on official headed paper, detailing the period of your conference stay in Britain, the purpose of your stay and how it is financed.
  • More information on visa support and location is given on the Visa&Travel page.

PROCEEDINGS NANOSCALE 2023

in MEASUREMENT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

  • Proceedings: As of March 13th, 2025, the virtual Special Issue of MST is complete and ready for download! All manuscripts that have successfully completed the review are listed and linked on the landing page of the NanoScale MST special section

  • Most papers of our MST Special Issue are anyway open access. Please feel free to download and read them! Those articles that are not open access were made available for free download to all NanoScale 2023 attendees for a limited time.

SUMMARY OF NANOSCALE 2023 IN HELSINKI

106 attendees with as many as 83 scientific presentations turned it into a success

NanoScale 2023 took place in the conference centre Technopolis Ruoholahti (location map), just 2 km West of the heart of Helsinki, from October 10th to 12th, 2023. After a break of 4 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was generally appreciated that the conference was fully in person (with one hybrid session as open stakeholder meeting). 106 participants from 24 countries on all continents took part at NanoScale in Helsinki, which was nearly as many as in the record-year 2019 before the pandemic! As many as 83 presentations were given (31 of them oral presentations, 52 of them posters). All submissions are included in the Book of Abstracts that was handed out to the participants and made available to them for download as pdf-file.

NanoScale 2023 included Special Sessions on "High-speed SPM measurements of functional properties of nanostructures" and "3D roughness & dimensional measurements using optical 3D microscopy and optical distance sensors" (EMPIR projects 20IND08 MetExSPM and 20IND07 TracOptic). Furthermore, lab tours at VTT MIKES on the Otaniemi campus in Espoo were organized.

Please find more on NanoScale 2023 under History > NanoScale 2023. The whole program and a lot of further information both on NanoScale 2023 and the Length Metrology Week 2023, into which NanoScale 2023 was embedded, is available there.

A short summarizing report on NanoScale 2023 is available as pdf-file here.
